biggranty Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Hi im really desperate for help in setting up my pc to show HD channels properly with no breaking up. Ive tried loads of codec combinations that have been suggested on numerous sites and none seem to work. Its at the stage i wonder whether to give up and buy a Dreambox thats how frustrated ive got. My current kit, High spec quad core pc with 4gb ram Ati hd 5450 Hauppage HD s2 card windows 7 32 bit DVBViewer pro 4.8.1.0 Ive just reinstalled windows and only codec ive added are powerdvd 10. As i said many of the combinations ive tried just go from bad to worse. I dont know if changing ati card for a decent nvidia would be a solution. Hopefully some of you guys can help . Thanks in advance Quote
McenterFreak Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 First of all: Install a clean Win 7. Dont install any codec packs, windows 7 have it all Second: Install latest ATI drivers. ATI have had huge problems with HD channels, where the picture was pixelating, specially on DVB-T. If this dosen't solve it: Install Power DVD, disable HW acceleration in PowerDVD codec. Your CPU should be powerfull enough to decode in SW Still problems: Try with a nVidia GFX If all above dosent solve it, i believe it is your signal that has problems. Many have no problems with the signal, when using Settop boxes, or directly to TV, but when connected to a Tuner in the PC, they get problems because many TV tuners expects better signal Quote
biggranty Posted July 12, 2011 Author Posted July 12, 2011 Thanks for the reply mate, regards signal im getting between 94% and 99% on all channels, i downloaded latest catlyst software but ill see if i can find a newer driver and remove codecs and give that a try. If not ill do a complete new install its got me really frustrated so hopefully it will work if i have to change graphics card what do you advise?? cheers again Quote
Cjay Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Strangely, you might be better off going to an older version of Catalyst Control Center - this has fixed BBC HD issues for me. Try version 11.4 There are numerous posts across various forums about how the latest CCC is causing pixellation and other picture breakup. Quote
biggranty Posted July 12, 2011 Author Posted July 12, 2011 Thanks cjay out of interest what other settings are you using. Any help would be appreciated Quote
Cjay Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Anything in particular you are looking for? I am using the PDVD8 video decoder, but the Microsoft DTV-DVD seems almost the same. When you say picture breaking up can you be more specific - jitter, freezing, pixellation... ?? Chris Quote
biggranty Posted July 12, 2011 Author Posted July 12, 2011 I got all 3 symptoms, sometimes things are ok in HD for 30 secs to a minute then it breaks up but other times its almost as soon as i change to the HD channel. I now plan on formatting again and just go with ccc 11.4 and see how microsoft codecs go. What rendering should i use? I am starting to think it may be graphics card but i play loads of 1080p mkv's and blue ray iso's without a hitch . cheers Quote

Signal quality is the keyword here. About graphic cards: anything newer nVidia will work perfectly, but if you want to use PC as a gaming machine, you need to investigate But be aware of connections, some have one DVI and one VGA, some have two DVI and some have HDMI. So select what you need Quote
biggranty Posted July 12, 2011 Author Posted July 12, 2011 Card is required for a HTPC only no gaming, looked at a couple of nvidia 550 and 560's although not much cheaper than buying a dreambox dm800 id rather have the one machine doing everything. Quote
