Default Timer name

I am having problems - maybe just my own confusion - with the default name that is used for the timer, when using the scheduled recording service.

My preferred names for the files have the form:

%station %year-%date %time <programme title>

ie, using the example of a programme that is broadcasting right now, I would like the .ts file to be named:

Channel 4 (eng) 2012-05-30 20-01-18 Secret Eaters.ts

Now it seems that my settings weren't quite right, because a recent upgrade to the recording service has given me very long filenames that include the programme description.

I was using

%station %year-%date %time %name

and this was working fine, because when I created a timer, the timer name took the title of the programme, so everything was fine.

Now, under 1.9.7.0, and presumably for some time - I don't know what version I was using prior to the upgrade, the timer name takes upward of 60 or 70 characters of the programme subtitle, and I was getting even longer filenames.

So I fixed the file names to be:

%station %year-%date %time %event

and this seems to give me the file names that I want.

But the timer has names such as "Secret Eaters - A Hull couple and their lodger are closely monitor", whereas before the time name would have been just "Secret Eaters"

So now, whenever I create a new timer, I believe that the timer name is taking part of the programme description, and if I schedule the timer to repeat for the next broadcast, it will have the same (extended) timer name as the previous episode.

in other words, much of what is incorporated into the timer name is unnecessary and unhelpful (to me).

I understand that part of the issue here could be the format of the EPG data, but I think it's only my software that changed, when I recently upgraded the recording service. I do so only irregularly. I'm receiving FreeSat EPG data.

So, have I missed a way to fix the timer names to be just the programme title, or am I stuck with editing the timer name every time I create a new timer?

This was changed in 1.9.2

From changelog:

<li>Change: Timer: The timer names are now generated from the EPG title + the first 50 chars of the EPG event.

Thanks for putting me straight. I had searched for the %placeholders in the changelog, and not found anything relevant. Of course that is exactly the behaviour I am seeing, even if it's not the behaviour I would like :-(

OK, thanks for the info. I'll try to find time to investigate this solution.

If you do, you will find this solution is greatly superior in every sense. If grabbing from tvguide.co.uk you could extract onscreen episode-numbering which you place in the StartOfSubtitle (EPG event in RS) with the XEPG Format Editor. All series gets season/episode numbering which you have much use for when using the check for previous recordings function in RS. When executing the Autotimer all re-run recording timers gets automatically deactivated if the episode already has been recorded and exists in the RS recording history database.

WG++ has an IMDb postprocessor that provides star-ratings for all movies (and also series if you like, but I prefer to separate them because of the check for previous recordings function). Looks great in the EPG and it's very practical when assessing if the movie is worth recording or not. The star-ratings you insert in the same way as onscreen season/episode numbering (in StartOfSubtitle with the XEPG Format Editor). The postprocessor is nearly 100% accurate finding star-ratings for movies.
