ccristal Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Hi! I have RS 1.26 + DVBViewer 5.1. Whenever I start DVBViewer, some channels are missing from the EPG. Usually, when it happens, it's not single channels, but blocks of channels corresponding to the same transponders. To get the EPG for such channels I have to physically tune to one of them: as soon as I do that, all the missing channels from the same transponder show up. Any idea? Is this a defect? Thanks! ccristal
Tjod Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Pleas post a support.zip Do you have more than one tuner? Or is the PC from time to time running and the DVBViewer is nor running?
ccristal Posted May 23, 2013 Author Posted May 23, 2013 (edited) Hi! Here's my setup: RS 1.26.0 DVBViewer 5.1.0.0 One single tuner (TBS5980) connected to 2 dishes via DiSEqC (Astra 28.2E on Pos A/Opt A and HotBird 13E on Pos B/Opt A) Driver version for the tuner: 1.0.2.7 (latest available) TbsCIapi.dll v1.0.1.0 (latest available). I copied this into the DVBViewer folder. Here's a support.zip taken just after I noticed that ITV2 HD, ITV3 HD and ITV4 HD were missing from the EPG. As soon as I tuned on ITV2 HD, all three appeared in the EPG window. support.zip I experience the same problem with missing channels from both dishes. My computer is always on and the RS is running all the time. I hope this helps... ccristal Edited May 23, 2013 by ccristal
Griga Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 I noticed that ITV2 HD, ITV3 HD and ITV4 HD were missing from the EPG. As soon as I tuned on ITV2 HD, all three appeared in the EPG window. It's 11758 H on Astra 28° East, right? ATM I can see only a present/following resp. now/next EPG for these channels in the TransEdit Analyzer. So what do you expect? IMO such short-term data always requires tuning to the transponder.
ccristal Posted May 23, 2013 Author Posted May 23, 2013 Hi! Thanks for your answer, although I get the feeling that I lack the background knowledge to understand it completely. Are you saying that there are 2 types of EPG data, one that is visible from the background EPG scanner, the other one that is not and requires tuning in to the transponder to be seen?
Griga Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Basically there are two types of EPG data: Short-term "present/following" and long-term "schedule", covering some days ahead, like the Freesat EPG. It's up to the broadcaster which kind of data is provided. The present/following EPG is updated continuously. As soon as the current programme is over, the "present" entry vanishes from the transponder, the "following" entry becomes the "present" entry, and the next "following" entry appears. If there is no long-term "schedule" EPG, you will only see two EPG entries after tuning to the transponder. I don't know exactly how the RS handles it, but I guess it discards outdated data after some time. That's why you need to tune to the transponder to get the up-to-date present/following EPG. The previously received present/following data (maybe one day ago) is already gone. 1
ccristal Posted May 23, 2013 Author Posted May 23, 2013 Thanks for your answer, Griga! It does make a lot of sense... Question for the devs: how time consuming it is to get the present/following info for the missing channels? How realistic would it be to acquire that info every time the EPG window is launched, and to keep it constantly up to date? I'm sure you have already thought about something similar... would you mind sharing your thoughts? Thanks! ccristal
Griga Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Question for the devs: how time consuming it is to get the present/following info for the missing channels? How time consuming is it for you? How realistic would it be to acquire that info every time the EPG window is launched, and to keep it constantly up to date? Completely unrealistic. You would need an extra tuner for monitoring the transponder all the time, or at least tuning to it every 5 minutes. And of course an extra software developer for your personal needs. What a waste of money and energy just for a few lines of text! Please understand that the present/following EPG is designed for informing you what is running now and in near future when you are watching the channel, not permanently. Don't ask for it here, it's definitely the wrong place. Rather write desperate letters to ITV. Tell them that you badly need a "schedule" EPG for ITV HD 2...4, and that you can't live without it anymore. Or simply find some other source that provides the information. 1
Tjod Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 You need at least a second tuner with a separate connection to the multiswitch/LNB. In RS you can change the EPG update time interval to every hour. Start menu > programs > DVBViewer > DVBViewer Recording Service > Recording Service Tweaker. So if present/following are at least covering the timespan of one hour. You should have EPG for all channels. 1
ccristal Posted May 24, 2013 Author Posted May 24, 2013 Don't ask for it here, it's definitely the wrong place. I didn't. I was just trying to understand how things work.

QBox User Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 You will only receive full EPG data for the FTA channels, through the Freesat EPG which is transmitted on 11427H and more slowly on other transponders. 7-day EPG for the encrypted channels is only available through the Sky EPG, which used to be on 11778V but I can't see it here and in any case, I don't know if it was FTA. To get the extra channels, you will need to use an external EPG source.
ccristal Posted May 24, 2013 Author Posted May 24, 2013 (edited) 7-day EPG for the encrypted channels is only available through the Sky EPG I just found an open source tool called "EPG Collector". It can import EPG data in various formats and inject them into the RS. Looks promising... ccristal Edited May 24, 2013 by ccristal
