MrG Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Hi, I've read that it is not recommended to install the Airstar2 in a slot next to the AGP slot. I use a Shuttle SN41G2V2 and - guess what - there ist just one PCI slot and it directly next to the AGP slot. However the AGP slot is not used. I wonder if the reason for that recommendation is because ... 1) there is radio intererence with AGP and DVB-T which will result in poor TV reception or 2) there are any bus or timing problems that might cause problems with the Airstar2 card. Does anyone know? And: Is it ok to run an Airstar2 on a Shuttle SN41G2V2? I feel that it should not cause any problems as the AGP is unused. But that's just my feeling. Regards, MrG Quote
archon Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 Hi, I think without a fan the heat of two cards (esp. the hot DVB card) cannot be beaten. I've the same situation and no troubles with "the slot directly next to the agp card". Ciao Frank Quote
Gioxy Posted November 10, 2004 Posted November 10, 2004 No, with the "slot near the AGP problem" we mean that usually that slot share the same "fisical IRQ" with the AGP; this easily can lead in poor rendering performance Anyhow (as also arkon state) this isn't always a problem, it's depending on your MB... MrG Posted November 18, 2004 Author Posted November 18, 2004 Just to let you know. Gioxy Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 (edited) I haven't excluded the problem of the overheating, I sat what wolud be the usual informatic meaning of the "slot near the AGP problem".... For briefly explain what I mean: if you take a look on the manual of your MB you would have to find a "IRQ mapping table" (like the one I attach in this post), where you can notice that the AGP IRQ is shared with the one of the slots 6 and 2... So I would avoid to insert the SS2 in slot 2 and 6... ...but unfortunately, I know, with the SS2 we have also other problems... Cordial Gioxy Edited November 18, 2004 by Gioxy Quote
MrG Posted November 18, 2004 Author Posted November 18, 2004 I haven't excluded the problem of the overheating, I sat what wolud be the usual informatic meaning of the "slot near the AGP problem".... @Gioxy: Sure. My last post was not to say that you're wrong. I think both (IRQ and Temp) may cause problems. Just wanted to let you know what Technisat said. I don't know what your experiences are. But till now my judgement is that Technisat support is not really top of the league...! (Lately Technisat phone support told my that there is supplementary 5 volts power on the antenna jack - which is definitely wrong.) Regards, MrG Quote
Gioxy Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 Ok, ok, solved any misunderstanding... ...and yes, as reported also in various other forum, the Tecnisat support is not so excellent... but you have found the right forum to ask! Gioxy Quote
Guest Michael Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 my skystar2 is running in a shuttle pc all the time (means 24/7) and it works quite well at least i haven't encountered any problems yet. Quote
