robena Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 (edited) Hi, I can make up to 5 simultaneous recordings, and I have defined 3 recording paths on 3 drives. If I don't specify it while making the reservation, the recordings always go to the first defined path. The UI does not show the selected path, so it's a bit of of pain to select the path and get the recordings evenly spread, because there is no visual cue to where each recording goes. Is there a setting that would make the recordings to be spread amongst the defined paths automatically? Edited December 31, 2013 by robena Quote
QBox User Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 If using the Recording Service, then RS-Options-Recorder-Auto mode-Use the folder with maximum free disk space. Quote
robena Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 That's not want I want to do in fact, even though I understand it can be useful. I want to even out the load between drives, regarless of their free space. Apparently, it's not supported. Quote
majstang Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 (edited) I don't see the point in having RS evenly distributing recordings between drives. The most important feature is there though, if drive space gets low RS shifts drives. You can distribute out your recordings through a script or use RS Search presets. You set up the search presets according to a system like this: Instead of using recording folder auto you use: Show 1 - Recordingfolder D:\recordings Show 2 - Recordingfolder E:\recordings Show 3 - Recordingfolder F:\recordings Show 4 - Recordingfolder D:\recordings Show 5 - Recordingfolder E:\recordings Show 6 - Recordingfolder F:\recordings Executing the autotimer and all your search presets will turn into timers->recordings which will be distributed to the drive you specified. The easiest solution to your question is a script though. Edited January 1, 2014 by majstang Quote
robena Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 (edited) Yes, I can certainly set up the shows manually. It's actually what I'm doing for now, but it would be nice if it was automatic. DV Scheduler for example can do it.The point of spreading the shows is the following: when the recordings are done, I have a script that starts ShowAnalyzer on each drive to look for commercials cuts.On a multi-core system, the bottleneck is hard drive access. When shows are on 3 drives, looking for commercials takes 3 times less than where they are on only one, and have to be processed sequentially rather than concurrently. Thanks for your input anyway. Maybe this will prompt the developper to add this feature to a future release. Meantime, I'll look into your script suggestion. I never used them before with DVBViewer. majstang Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 (edited) I don't think you understood me correctly, the way I just described for you was how to do automatic scheduling of shows/recordings. That also includes how to evenly distribute recordings between drives. You have a lot to learn friend... Please begin here: http://en.DVBViewer.tv/wiki/Webinterface_-_Search_EPG Note: This info refers to the Recording Service and not to the DVBViewer. Edited January 1, 2014 by majstang Quote
robena Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 Thanks, but I don't wan't to use any EPG, I don't trust them. And my question was about straight DVBViewer, not the recording service. It's interestng to know it exists, but not my main concern at the moment. Quote
majstang Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Ok, this begins to be confusing for me! How do you expect automatic scheduling of recordings without an EPG to work? Quote
robena Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 Ok, this begins to be confusing for me! How do you expect automatic scheduling of recordings without an EPG to work? I don't! The only thing I want is automatic even distribution amongst the drives for manually programmed recordings, without having to specify which drive for each reservation. Look at the attached capture for DV Scheduler configuration: there is a box set to "Evenly distributed". Once it's selected, you don't have to bother to which drive to record anymore to get even distribution. I'm just suggesting that it's an useful feature, missing with DVBViewer. Quote
majstang Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Well, dont get your hopes up. Hardly anyone uses DVBViewer as main recorder, cuz it lacks so many features compared to RS, so its likely such a request has minimal chance of being realized. Using scripts with DVBViewer isnt as easy as it is with RS, so your best choice would be to stick with DV Scheduler to get even distribution. Quote
