nicis
I just updated with latest version of media server and DVBViewer. after this, when I connect again to the serveur, no more timers. the svctimers.xml file is empty. since I make a backup of config files, I was lucky Is this the correct behaviour ? nicis
I entered again all timers but those are not keeped. even the restore does not solve the problem. xml since files are located at differents places (programmdata\cmuv, \all_users...) i needed to remove dvbviewser tools, insure no files are still there and installed previous version. every work find again. next time, I will wait a few months before upgrading. Griga
Dunno what you did.... I've tried the following: Media Server 2.1.1 installation under Windows 10 -> Created 4 timers for different channels by using EPG page -> stopped the Media Server -> installed DVBViewer 6.1.2 and DMS 2.1.2 without uninstalling the previous version -> all timers were preserved. If you uninstall the previous version and ask the uninstaller to delete all configuration files, the timers are gone, of course. 8 hours ago, nicis said: even the restore does not solve the problem. xml since files are located at differents places (programmdata\cmuv, \all_users...) rco133
Hi nicis. I have also updated from 2.1.1 to 2.1.2 and have not experienced any of the problems you are noticing. All timers were kept, after the update and new timers is added and working fine. What you are experiencing is defenately not supposed to happen, but seems to be something specific to your installation. rco133 Quote Link to comment

I get this path under Windows 7 by opening the DMS options -> click Configuration Folder (opens an Explorer window): If I copy your All Users path to the address bar the Explorer shows the same directoy : However, if I click the All Users parent directory in the address bar, I don't get there, but to the ProgramData directory. So I guess All Users doesn't really exist, but is mapped to ProgramData for compatibility reasons. This internal mapping / renaming of directories performed by Windows can be pretty confusing Quote Link to comment
HaraldL
"All Users" in C:\Users is not a folder but a symbolic link to C:\ProgramData. Try in a CMD-Window: cd \Users dir /a and you get something like this: 21.02.2016 12:51 <DIR> . 21.02.2016 12:51 <DIR> .. 03.07.2017 20:06 <DIR> Admin 29.12.2017 13:38 <DIR> Administrator 14.07.2009 07:08 <SYMLINKD> All Users [C:\ProgramData] 09.07.2017 19:44 <DIR> Default 14.07.2009 07:08 <VERBINDUNG> Default User [C:\Users\Default] 14.07.2009 06:54 174 desktop.ini You see that "All Users" and "Default User" are not <DIR> but special entries (here german version) with their targets in Bracket, only needed for old programs who don't know about C:\ProgramData and expect the files hardcoded in C:\Users\All Users from WinXP-Syntax. nicis
hello, thanks for the responses I'm running windows 2008 R2 server , this is the first difference As you say, the directory is a symbolic link, I never see this. so , this should not be a problem I created the timers manually from timer page, not from the EPG page , this is a difference with your test strange behaviour since even when I restaured the C:\ProgramData\CMUV\DVBViewer\Config\svctimers.xml file from a backup and restarted the service did not solve the problem when, i believe that the installation was strange and should work as you say. this week-end, i will try again one update, this will not take to much time. again, thanks for your feedbacks Quote Link to comment

nicis
I made the test again I updated the software I stopped the windows service I exit the dvbview control app from systray i replace the C:\ProgramData\CMUV\DVBViewer\Config\svctimers.xml i restarted windows server and control app I checked again the svctimers.xml : is contents is still OK I connect to DVBViewer service via web interface : the list of timer displayed in timer tab is empty (but the file is not) I stopped the service again, exit the systray control app and checked the svctimers.xml file : it is empty (just tag, no "<Timer>" entries) does the ID field value is important? what is his value related to ? Griga
Maybe there is something wrong with your svctimers.xml. Please attach it here, or if you don't want to make it public, send me a PM. Quote Link to comment

Griga
I've received your svctimers.xml. Here are some points resulting from my researches: I can't reproduce the issue here. Your XMLis loaded, saved and reloaded after a DMS stop/start without becoming empty. However, since I don't have the associated TS Stream channel in my list, the DMS changes the channel to another one (first best match) during this process. I've tried the procedure described by you with other TS Stream channels, but all resulting timers where preserved on a DMS stop/restart. While checking your file I found (minor) bugs in the timer handling, but none that causes a timer to be dropped. One of the bugs lets the timer for a TS Stream channel appear in red in the web interface timer list, marked as "non executable". This happens if there is no TS Stream device in the hardware list, because the functions that checks the executability of timers doesn't consider that TS Stream devices are auto-created on demand (adding a TS Stream device to the hardware list fixes it). However, that's only an optical UI thing. The timer is executed anyway. The DMS uselessly saves the svctimers.xml right after it has been loaded, but that doesn't cause the issue here either. I guess the timer is dropped on loading for some reason that I can't see. The DMS would regard a times as invalid and drop it on loading if no date is assigned to it, but your timer has a valid date. if the timer is only executed once and the end time is already in the past. But your timer is auto-repeating and executed more than once. if no channel from the channel list can be assigned to it. But the channel of your timer obviously is in your list. So I still don't know why it happens in your installation. Since you didn't provide a support.zip yet, there is nothing more that I can check. Quote Link to comment
nicis
I make a test under windows 10 pro and same error. I looked to your support tools but it is related to problems with DVBViewer (according instruction, I need to start DVBViewer in debug mode does using it and his logs will help you since my problem is related to the scheduling withing the media server not the "DVBViewer" player is it possible to trace the "cleaning action" the dms does when loading the xml file. this will help to debug the reason why all entries are removed even when the entries are OK Quote Link to comment
nicis
some more infos : Do you deal correctly timestamp when using different regional format ? perhpas the dms is very dependant of times values. how do you test is a timestamp if valid or not. for example here are the html code when you display the "timer" as you can see, timestamp are not normalized. Strange to see that you display AM/PM format while the regional parameter wihin windows is 24h format also, under windows 10, i launch the web interface and made a change. I changed start time 01:58 to 14:58 when I check the file in C:\ProgramData\CMUV\DVBViewer\Config\svctimers.xml, the windows file modification time is still dated before the change and his content is still the old time : 01:58 when I refresh the web page (F5) or exit and enter again web interface, still displayed 01:58 I stop the service, the timer in the file is now updated to 14h58 when I start the service again : the file is empty (no timer) but the svctimers.bak is ok, the timer is within with 14:58 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ on the windows 2008 R2, a timer is displayed on the web interface as : ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ <thead><tr><th colspan="4" class="mpointer">mardi, 25/09/2018</th></tr></thead><tbody> <tr class="activated dofade"> <td style="width:30px;" align="center"><span class="active deactivate mpointer" aurl="timer_list.html?aktion=timer_activate&id=0&active=0&sortby=date" title="Timer enabled | Web"></span></td> <td style="width:14em;">2347 xxxx</td> <td style="width:7em;padding-left:5px;">01:58 - 06:16</td> <td><div class="icons2"> <img src="gfx/repeat2.png" alt="Weekly Reruns" width="18" height="19"> <a href="timer_new.html?aktion=timer_new&referer=timer_list.html?aktion=timer_list&id=0&timertype=0&sortby=date" class="fader edit" title="Edit Timer"><img src="gfx/btn_edit.png" height="17" width="17" alt="Edit Timer"> </a><img class="fader mpointer delete" src="gfx/btn_delete.png" delurl="0" alt="Delete" title="Delete"> <input type="checkbox" name="id" value="0"> </div> <span class="aentry">2347 xxxx</span> </td> </tr> </tbody> ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ on the windows 10 , the same timer is displayed on the web interface as : ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ <thead><tr><th colspan="4" class="mpointer">Tuesday, 9/25/2018</th></tr></thead><tbody> <tr class="activated dofade"> <td style="width:30px;" align="center"><span class="active deactivate mpointer" aurl="timer_list.html?aktion=timer_activate&id=0&active=0&sortby=date" title="Timer enabled | Web"></span></td> <td style="width:14em;">2347 xxxx</td> <td style="width:7em;padding-left:5px;">1:58 AM - 6:16 AM</td> <td><div class="icons2"> <img src="gfx/repeat2.png" alt="Weekly Reruns" width="18" height="19"> <a href="timer_new.html?aktion=timer_new&referer=timer_list.html?aktion=timer_list&id=0&timertype=0&sortby=date" class="fader edit" title="Edit Timer"><img src="gfx/btn_edit.png" height="17" width="17" alt="Edit Timer"> </a><img class="fader mpointer delete" src="gfx/btn_delete.png" delurl="0" alt="Delete" title="Delete"> <input type="checkbox" name="id" value="0"> </div> <span class="aentry">2347 xxxx</span> </td> </tr> </tbody> Quote Link to comment
Griga
6 hours ago, nicis said: I looked to your support tools but it is related to problems with DVBViewer That's simply wrong. Please read more carefully. 6 hours ago, nicis said: Strange to see that you display AM/PM format while the regional parameter wihin windows is 24h format The DMS uses the format according to the Windows regional settings. If you don't get the expected display your Windows configuration may be faulty. There is a known problem with some Windows OEM versions that are pre-configured for a certain region. A region change on installation or initial setup causes inconsistent registry entries. This can usually be fixed by first changing the region to another country (click Apply), then back to the intended country (again click Apply) and finally restarting the DMS. 6 hours ago, nicis said: also, under windows 10, i launch the web interface and made a change. I'm quite sure the problem is caused by your configuration, because if it was a general DMS problem there would be lots of similar reports in the forum. But there aren't, neither from countries that are using the AM/PM format, nor from countries that are not using it. You are the only one. Quote Link to comment
nicis
Ok , i understand that my configuration is perhaps strange this was a fresh windows 10 installation , no other configuration or tools installed, the windows was an english version, I just changed the keyboard to french and the date/time fromat to french, that all . I just make a final test : put every thing in US format, 24h , ... no change neve mind, I will not spend more time about this behaviour just to finish : strange that this does not occurs with the versions 2.1.0.0 and 6.1.0.0 of those tools but just the latest one. strange no ? when I remove the version, delete all directories & files, reboot and install latest version -> bug when I remove the version, delete all directories & files, reboot and install previous version -> every work fine If I execute 100 times those 2 statements (install old and new ), I will be reproduct 100 times the errors on 2 different computers. My professionnal position is now IT manager and I started developpement 36 years ago and I still develop tools, I'm sure this is not the computer but the way the software works. this version is more sensitive to something . nicis
one latest test i installed a completly new windows from windows 7 French DVD on a the computer after this, the only change I made is install chipset drivers and network drivers, disable the firewall I even did not need to change time zone, date/time format, ... always default options has been used. i also installed chrome FR and firefox FR in order to check with different browser ( IE 8 is not supported correctly). all is default. no antivirus, no other tools except yours I installed DVBViewer and media server-> and test with all 3 browser : ie/firefox/chrome : i was able to view a channel, so the installation look's ok. I create a timer and there is no AM/PM displayed. the time is correctly display as HH:MM (24) - when I stop the service and start it again via DVBVCtrl : when I lauch a browser : unable to connect to localhost:8089 - I stop it again and start it again via DVBVCtrl : able to connect to localhost:8089 ok, this is another problem I already found before. the result : the timer is not found any more. the svctimers file is empty but not the .bak the file is erased when the service start. so, here , nobody can say this is a strange configuration. Looks like we are entering an infinite loop... There are two things that I want to do: Check the svcdebug.log for errors Copy your DMS settings to my PC and see if I can reproduce the issue. BTW: I've tried to change the date format used by the DMS to French habits (DD/MM/YYYY instead of the German DD.MM.YYY) in order to check what it does. It wasn't that easy... changing the country on Control Panel -> Region and Language -> Format to France had no effect, because it is applied to the current user account (DVBViewer responds to it quite happily). However, the DMS as Windows service is running in the system account. So how can one change its date format? It took me some time to find out (under Windows 7) that I have to go to the Control Panel -> Region and Language -> Administrative tab in order to copy the the current user account settings to the system account, thus making them the default settings for my PC. Nevertheless all timers are preserved on DMS stop/start, no matter what I do... Quote Link to comment

yourself the same test as me : download from microsoft a trial version of windows, since it is not activated , you have 3 days to debug your program. since I dont have the source code, this will take to much time for me to debug at assembly level Edited September 22, 2018 by Griga Spoiler tags added Quote Link to comment
nicis
helllo, any news ? did you reproduce the bug ? Quote Link to comment
Griga
No, I can't reproduce it. You are still the only user that encounters this problem. I have no idea what is going on in your system. Quote Link to comment
nicis
surprise because i can reproduce the bug just installtion a freesh windows cd installation + dvbviews installation. nothing else and this behaviour was not with the previous version. desappointed , never mind Quote Link to comment
Griga
The matter seems to be solved. Doing evil things with evil URLs and wanting to hide them, instead of providing important information, prevented an earlier solution. If I had seen the URL I would have been able to reproduce the issue immediately. Quote Link to comment
