Installation gone wrong

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place & please excuse my PC ignorance (i'm not very good with these things). My situation/problem is this :

 

Ive had the Skystar 2 card & software that came with it installed. I'm getting the dish feed sorted out next week. I looked through the DVBViewer programme (as much as is possible without having the dish feed connected) to get myself familiar with it. All seemed to be fine.

 

I then purchased the uprgade to full version & on install a "high risk"security alert came up ; "TS_Winlirc.exe is attempting to listen for connections from other computers". I didn't know what this meant & as i'm paranoid about internet security, i thought i'd post about it in the forum. Now, i (suppose wrongly) used system restore to take PC back to how it was before the attempted upgrade.

Now when i run DVBViewer,upon start up, it opens with TVT Chanel 11 news & i get the message "26/6/2005 10:53:58 EAccessViolation raised by instance frmMain of class of TfrmMain at OF3147A6:Zugiffsverletzung bei Adresse OF3147A6 in Modul "NeAudio.ax".Lessen von Adresse 00000004"

 

I dont want to make things worse, so i'm asking for help please. I'm not confident with PCs so wouldnt dare to mess around with registry etc. Would i be right in thinking the best (easiest?) thing would be to uninstall DVBViewer Technisat edition (from Control Panel/add remove programmes). Then download full version of DVBViewer & install that?

 

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

WinLirc does no harm - it's needed for a remote control; something like Girder.

 

Try unregistering the Nero audio decoder (neaudio.ax).

Thanks for the reply. How do i deregister the Nero audio decoder? (as i said, i'm not technicaly minded with PCs...what may be simple & straight forward to others isn't for me)

Be deregistering nero decoder, it wont make any changes to the actual Nero programmes i have? (if i understand correct, Nero decoder is just part of DVBViewer prog that works with Nero files?)

neaudio.ax belongs to Nero. It's just the audio decoder. This one is known to cause problems.

(I also noticed theres been more downloads of RadLight than DVBViewer,which could suggest that?)

 

Ok, so i download RadLight filter manager, go to "Audio Compressors",highlight Nero audio encoder & then click unregister ? (yeah, sorry i need so much "hand holding", but this stuff is alien to me & i'm scared of messing things up more).

Assuming i do that, by unregistering nero Audio decoder, i hope it will not effect any other programme that uses Nero AC?? ( You know, it would be silly to cause more problems elswhere on PC just because of this one program.) If unregistering doesnt correct the DVBViewer prog, can i go back to RadLight & then "Register" Nero AC .

 

Just so i'm sure, is unregistering Nero AC a better/safer solution to do than totally uninstalling DVBViewer & reinstalling?

Oh no, it's definately an infamous bug in Nero. The DVBViewer is fully compiant, the Nero decoder interferes with other filters, too. BTW: The Radlight tool hasn't been written for this purpose, it's absolutely necessary for dealing with different filters at all. Without it you had to manually alter the registry. It is mainly used to set the merit values.

Sorry, didn't get this one... But you shouldn't uninstall any program.

Well ive still not managed to sort this out yet. Yesterday i just had to leave it as it was just giving me a headache. I hoped that a clear mind tonight would give better results,but, its not so.

 

Ive downloaded the full version of DVBViewer & used the Radlight to unregister the Nero Audio compressor.

Now, upon start up of DVBViewer i get a small pop up box saying "WinLIRC is already running". As the main screen for DVBViewer opens, there is a bluebox with the words "DVBViewer digital emotions !..." & a progress bar that lists the things loading. Unfortunately, this progress bar gets as far as "Initialize OSD Skin" & then it hangs/freezes. It will not go away. Its only a couple of marks away from fully loading i guess. (so near,yet so far!)

 

What do i try now please ?

Try starting the DVBViewer.exe directly from the Windows explorer. The desktop link may not work.

It doesnt make any difference where i start it from.The same thing always happens, gets as far as the "Initialize OSD Skin" & freezes.

 

Maybe now its time to totally uninstall DVBViewer TE & 3.1 version. Then start again, loading original software that came with card, then try the upgrade again?

(Control panel>add/remove programmes)
