emmel Posted November 19, 2005 Posted November 19, 2005 Ok. There are no stupid questions, there are only stupid people. And here is one... What I'd like to do is some trivial streaming over wlan. But, instead of VLC, I'd like to use DVBViewer as client due to its capability of handling ts containing txt-subs in an elegant way. So, my idea is to record the ts somewhere (server or client) using DVBViewer, and view the recording using DVBViewer as well (I'll be glad to give you guys the extra 15/copy for using multiple instances of DVBViewer if I get this working...). Seems simple, but the following questions arise: 1) is it possible to record in a directory on a remote shared disk (WinXP)? For example choosing "Options -> Recordings: \\OtherComp\c\PVR\" does nothing, even if the path is correct and exists on the system? 2) when playing back a file on a remote shared disk (in my case over 54g wlan with frame bursting), there is some stuttering due to the occasional throughput slowdowns on wlan-traffic, or what ever. Is it possible to play around with buffering when playing back files to make the viewing smoother over not-so-robust networks? Have a nice weekend everybody, emmel Quote
emmel Posted November 22, 2005 Author Posted November 22, 2005 Problem number 2) solved. Wrote my own buffering script for robustly playing files over wlan. But still, I'd like to have an answer to my question number 1): You can play a files from a shared disk, but you cannot use it for recording. Is this a feature? emmel Quote
Guest Lars_MQ Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Have you tried to connect it with windows as a networkdrive and then access it? I think UNC names are not allowed (not sure why). Quote
emmel Posted November 22, 2005 Author Posted November 22, 2005 The path is legal and available in the drop-down-menu: Settings -> Options... -> Recorder -> Recordings -> ... If I choose a folder whose name eventually begins with \\, it seems to be illegal for recording. The same path is, however, legal for playback. The write-rights are ok of course. Anyways, if this is a feature, I'll accepts it, though it would be nice to be able to record on a shared disk as well. Quote
Guest Lars_MQ Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 Have you tried to connect it with windows as a networkdrive and then access it? Simply asign the unc name a drive char with windows. So you have drive Z: as example. Quote
