Delphi
I am considering ordering a PC for use in my home network, acting as a client. It will have its own tuner. I have another powerfull PC acting as server ( XP Pro) with 2 tuners. I don't use windows server, so so computer will be part of a domaine. So my question is: Is there any reason to buy Windows XP Pro or will Windows XP Home do? Thanks in advance Edited March 16, 2007 by Delphi Quote Link to comment
Derrick
Imho home will do. If you want to use remote desktop, only the server needs xp_pro. Quote Link to comment
Gioxy
BTW, with Windows XP Home you can't open more than 1 LAN resource at a time... Quote Link to comment

Gioxy
Typical LAN resources are shared folders and shared printers; rarely used LAN resources are shared fax, shared scanners, shared CD-jukebox and so on... Quote Link to comment
Delphi
I have just changed my order from XP home to XP Pro. Don't want to risk any problems for a relatively small saving. Anyway, it would be interesting to have answers to the following: 1) Is an internet download a LAN resource? 2) If yes, I will then have problems with XP Home when watching a streamed TV recording (in a shared folder) while downloading say EPG (I use myXMLTV), right? Thanks in advance Edited March 19, 2007 by Delphi Quote Link to comment
Gioxy
Is an internet download a LAN resource? Internet should be considered a WAN resource, not a LAN one... Also join a stream in the LAN IMHO can't be considered a LAN connection to a resource (see the list of LAN resources), but I don't know so in deep how XP Home consider this and behave... I'm sorry for that... Maybe a XP Home owner can be more precise with this subj... Quote Link to comment
