Simplified Diseq & Satellite setup

MalAdjusted

Recommended Posts

Hi,

This might in all likelyhood turn out to be a display of ignorance and what have you but

I've been unable to do / find an "easy, logical way to setup and persist" the connection

between DiSeq ports and satellites.

Pet grievance no 1:

Every so often when/if I want to scan a satellite or transponder only, for new or available services

the DiSeq setting is off or incorrect. Which means it has to be reset / corrected every now

and then. Not very hard but irritating. It's not like I've changed my gear / hw setup every time.

Pet grievance no 2:

Why not make scanning to alternate lists optional rather than default.

So I'd like to see something along the lines of what's common in set top boxes, sat recievers and so on.

1. Select and set what hardware is present

2. Connect DiSeq / Motor and what have you to satellite(s) and SAVE and PERSIST this connection.

3. Scan 1 or more or ALL configured devices, without having to re-enter any of the above ever again(inside the same setup) unless the hardware's changed.

If f.ex a transponder list has changed just go to step 3 and one should be home dry. As it is now, at least in my end of things this setup is not a one-time-only

event as mentioned above as I too often have to reassociate DiSeq pos. and satellites.

For your viewing pleasure and inspiration, consider the 3 attached Dreambox 7020s screenshots...they might not be artistic wonders but it's one

good way of getting it right.

On a more positive note though, nice software over all:)

Separate equipment data and dvb data (service db)!

My own pre-solution of an equipment structure database. Example, not really tested:

<ESDB>
 ....

<Apoint ref="WG" />
<Apoint ref="SZ" />

dcID means deliverysystem-ID (C, S, T, H...),

bcID, means broadcaster-ID (=my_sorted_SatPosID: 1800 - (E/-W)*Pos*10 [hexword])

both referenced in my hierarchical service-db

All your wishes will be fulfilled with TransEdit. Except that it doesn't look like a dream box :)>_<

That's nice, however using an external tool, even though it might work(haven't tried yet, but will) sort feels like

-> toolOne|toolTwo|toolThree < grep whatever or something like that.

I like convenient, simple. KISS anyone?

If the functionality I'd like to see implemented already exists in TransEdit it could codewise or ideawise be transplanted into place inside DVBViewer proper.

Bottom line is that hardware setup as someone elsewhere in this thread put it, should be separated from the programming/channels/favourites setup.

And that being said, back to square one of my initial request: Please make hw-setup a one time thing only. Which is as far as I've seen default in set top boxes

and in many other pc-based software solutions.
