DVBviewer for use in Mexico

Recommended Posts

I purchased a Technisat Skystar 2 on Ebay recently and it comes with DVBViewer. The problem / question is that the DVBViewer software appears to by made for European use.

Question1. The preset channels/sats are various Astra, Hot Bird etc. I do not understand how I can enter the satellites that I am interested in. In Channel scan I can leave the Target root blank, enter a desired sat and scan but nothing is found, I see an import function - perhaps there are preset files available?

I know my Skystar 2 is working because I tried a Satellite finder software and it works fine.

Question2. If I upgrade to the PRO version I see that an EPG is available. So the same question, is this EPG available for the sats in my hemisphere ?

Thanks!

You should try to download the current beta version of the DVBViewer TE2 (available on the Technisat website). This one should contain a almost up to date list of all available satellites.

As a base for scanning you will need transponder lists (ini files) containing all "active" frequencies/transponders on your sat position(s) and their reception parameters. Read more about it here.

After purchasing DVBViewer Pro you may use the add-on TransEdit (full version) for creating/editing transponder lists. Or check out the free (restricted) TransEdit MMC version. Dunno if the DVBViewer Pro installation already includes transponders lists for the sat positions in question (you didn't mention them)... if yes I doubt that the lists are up-to-date.

If there is an EPG complying with the DVB/ETSI specifications, yes, if not... who knows? We can't receive it in Europe.

Thanks, I will do this and see. Since my 1st post I have installed DVBDream and have got things working. The only problem is that when I put the PC to sleep and wake it up again the Technisat card doesn't work and I have to do a cold reboot.

DVBViewer sounds awesome, and I hope it handles the Technisat SkyStar 2 board properly. My ideal setup would be DVB-S + built in bittorent (for any TV programs we miss) + DVD player. Oh, and a good EPG!

Thanks for the hints. In my installation there are no transponder lists .ini files. Just DVBViewer, with folders /images, /language, /plugins, and /skins.

I will try downloading a later version from the website. I am located in Mexico and so can see the USA satellites, albeit need a bigger dish. I presume that DVBViewer is sold in the USA so hopefully the EPG is not an issue. Basically I just want to get a feel of DVBViewer, mainly it needs to be "wife" friendly and crash free!

Not doing too well. As mentioned I have installed DVB Dream and hooked it up to my Dishnet dish pointed at Echostar 7. You are right in that the supplied transponder .ini file is completely wrong (at least for 2410.ini, I haven't compared others). But fortunately the DVB Dream appears to use the same name and format. See below. Note the file dates are close but the transponders are very different. The dish has a circular polarized LNB LOF=10750

With DVB Dream I can view the FTA channels and identify the encrypted ones.

Here is the bad part. I replaced the Transedit DVBViewer 2410.ini with the DVB Dream one. And set LOF1=10750, LOF2=0 and LOF sw=0

But when I scan I cannot find anything. This is an uphill battle!

DVB Dream works a dream, but is only a DVB software, DVBViewer does a lot more but after 2 days of playing is getting to be a pain!

...note the difference of the polarization, Vertical and Horizontal in those you posted, Left and Right in this one... I can't know if that's a problem or the solution with DVBViewer, but you can try first as it is, then replacing R with V and L with H...

BTW, what you get scanning with TransEdit? Have you already tryied with a "blind scan"?

Hello, I tried plugging in this .ini, but Transedit does not "take R & L I end up with a partial list containing only "H's". So this is a minor problem with Transedit because R & L is of course correct.

I cannot use blind scan, both blind scan and Analyze are grayed out, I haven't found yet how to make them accessible.

When I published my last post it was midnight here, and was just pleased to have found the DVB Dream 2410.ini file I never thought to google it. In my case the DVB Dream works fine so I tend to believe that this ini file is correct. The DVB Dream ini only refers to Echostar 7 and not Anik F# so this probably explains the difference in size.

Do you know if the numbering is important?

ie. in the original DVB View it is

[sATTYPE]

1=2410

2=Echostar 7, Direct TV 7S & AMC 16

[DVB]

0=40

1=11715,V,20000,78

2=11728,H,20000,78

....

20=12224,V,20000,56

21=12239,H,20000,56

In the DVB Dream file

[sATTYPE]

1=2410

2=Echostar 7

[DVB]

0=24

1=12224,V,20000

2=12239,H,20000

So the same entries appear, but at different positions in the file. I will try adding the FEC info into the DVB DReam file, and changing R with V and L with H in the other file.

On a completely different note. Is the DVBViewer the way to go? Until I can make it work I will never know!

Hola,

the DVBViewer uses additional informations inside the transponder lists. FEC is not that very much important, if the setting is missing FEC AUTO is used. This works with almost every tuner and DVB device, much more complicated are those S2 Transponder streams. Roll ON/Off and Pilot informations are quite important, but unluckily the standard "defined" by ProgDVB is odd. A simple S2 does not work on multiple devices which can not detect the proper setting, but at least ProgDVB still does not really work stable with S2 :)

You can't... sorry, I forgot you can only use Transedit MMC because you aren't (yet) a DVBViewerPro customer...

It's only a way to order them, you can mix up as you want whitout any harm...

Well finally got it working, I dont think that I have thanked you for the support. So here it is - thank you!

I was never able to make the Technisat supplied DVBViewer to work, it refused to find any satellite channels. So I removed it, and used CCleaner to clean the registery. I then purchased the DVBViewer-Pro.

But again the same problem, not able to find any satellites using the main application. I then downloaded Transedit and it was able to find all of the channels. I then exported them to DVBViewer and it works!

I have since tried to re-scan within DVBViewer it scans, I see signals on the blue graphbar, but finds zero channels. No matter, it works.
