BBC HD transponder switch to DVB-S2

Check your device is visible in device manager. Might be worth deleting it from device manager and let w7 discover it again.

Hi Frank,

I've just uninstalled the device from device manager, restarted and then re-installed it. When I fire up TransEdit, it now complains that it cannot 'Initialize my DVB device' - argh!

The strange thing is that every other channel works, including ITV1 HD. It's just that the BBC HD channels cannot be detected! Why couldn't the BBC just leave things as they were!

Try changing the modulation to QPSK in case your hardware does not cope with AUTO settings.

Also in the options-->hardware section ...try "open up whole transponder" if it is not set.

By the way what is your hardware ?

If that fails load Transedit and see if you can see the channel on the 10847 transponder

Hope that helps.

Hey Frank,

Unfortunately even with the QPSK setting, it still can't see the channel. I've attached a screenshot of my TransEdit settings.

My device is a TBS QBox DVB-S2 USB2 device.

http://www.tbsdtv.com/english/product/images/qbox_s2_vs_qbox_3.jpg

I've just noticed in the image comparison above that on my version of the QBox, that the DVB-S2 on QPSK only supports symbol rates 20-30Msps. Is that likely to make a difference? It would seem weird considering I was receiving the BBC1HD and BBCHD channels fine before the switch.

Cheers,

Don.

Previous BBC HD was on 22000 sybolic rate, now on 23000 ....when you do a scan it is normallyy between 22000 and 27000 if I remember correctly.

Have you tried doing a preview on Transedit ?

Hey Frank,

TransEdit can't initialise my DVB device so it doesn't even allow a preview.

That said, I finally managed to get it working. I turned off the DiseqC (set the option to 'None') and then did a full channel scan, and voila the BBC HD channels appeared and are work perfectly fine! Very strange. I was just playing around with various permutations and that seemed to do the trick. The weird thing is that the HD channel appears in a blue font in the channel list. Not sure what that is.

Thanks for all who helped me try to find a solution.

I think all DVB-s2 channels appear as blue (same for me).

Glad it all works now, I always use none for DiseqC as I have none.

Even more bizarre for me is that after I installed the blackgold dual DVB-t2 card all my problems on DVB-s2 have gone away ? strange. I have not changed anything on the decoder side ect.

Is there a surefire way to tell what DiseqC setting I should be using? I live in a block of flats and so I have no idea what antenna is being used (I'm assuming DiseqC relates to the antenna?).

Don.

DiSEqC is for controlling multiple satellites, either through a switch for multiple LNBs(position A, etc) or a motor (Position number or longitude). If you only receive 28E, set DiSEqC to None for that satellite.

Hi, I'm having the same kind of issue with my Technisat SkyStar HD2 PCI card.Since the BBC move to the S2 modulation mode on Satellite: Astra 2D tp.50

Frequency: 10,847MHz (vertical polarity)

Modulation: DVB-S2, QPSK

Symbol Rate: 23.0

FEC: 8/9

I have been unable to receive any signal from that transponder.I have been talking with TechniSat's technical support who I must say have been very helpful but have drawn a blank as to why the card will not receive anything from this transponder.I have a dm800hd box running from the same LNB and this works fine so I know its not the LNB.just wanted to know if anyone had the same issue really..

Thing I have tried so far

1.Tested and substituted LNB

2.added updated file to transponders folder

3.scanned 10846 and 10848 just encase the LNB's oscillator was out

4.used new version of the drivers for the card

one other thing to add is that I'm sure the card is receiving other S2 transmissions as I can get all MTVNHD etc

Thanks in advance for any help

2.added updated file to transponders folder

To Program Files\DVBViewer\Transponders? Doesn't work. It must be changed/stored in the DVBViewer Configuration Folder\Transponders. TransEdit takes care of it, but people prefer to do it in a more complicated way. ;)

TransEdit can't initialise my DVB device so it doesn't even allow a preview.

If this happens under Win7, launch TransEdit with admin rights and let it use the device. After that it should work without admin rights. Or tick settings -> hardware -> use internal network provider filter.

Hi, try a couple of things. First try with no DiseqC device (NONE).....might be worth doing a full scan as well.

Use Transedit and select 10847 and ANALAZE

I run transedit from the DVBViewer folder and works without admin rights (W7 64 bit)

see my results here

http://www.manikata.com/tecchie/DVBViewer/

If you get the preview to work right click on the picture which opens up DVB source..... take a look at discontinuities.

This shows up with 42 discontinuities in about 1 minute , also queued Video buffers occur.

http://www.manikata.com/tecchie/DVBViewer/pictures/dvbsource2.jpg

Looking at ITV HD (DVB-S) (10832 frequency) at a greater rate (10MB/S) has 0 in discontinuities field.

Surely this is a transmission issue and not the receiver end.

There are many comments about this in

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk

Anyone with any comments ???

Cheers

Frank
