DVBViewer 6.0.0.0

DVBViewer 6.0.0.0, with Auto Switch to TV/Radio Windows, correctly selects the smaller radio window, and shows programme information, but when minimised and then maximised, looses programme information and displays a Control button which does not do anything.

Hello,

Settings are:

Auto-switch to TV/Radio window on video/audio ..

Playback in minimised state Stopped

Timeshift on (does not affect it either way)

TBS6922 DVBS/S2 Tuner only

DVBViewer media server not enabled

When tuned to radio (LBC), displays normally with newer layout (image 2).

Minimise, causing the app to mute (OK)

Maximise, starts playing, but window has lost the programme data and control panel for stop / start etc, with a Control button showing which doesn't do anything, (image 1).

Regards,
Stephen.

Just tested your steps with same settings (but different radio channels) on Win7 without any problems. Interface is fine after window restore from minimize (its not maximize where I would have a fully black screen with RDS info only).

Hello, I'm using Win10. The behaviour was fine in previous version, and started when updating to 6.0.0.0. Happens every time for me, and only thing that will restore the proper window is app restart. Happens with radio stations only and tried another station, same behaviour.

Ok, confirmed. Thanks for testing. It happens under Windows 8 and 10, not under Windows 7. And not if Options -> General -> Show DVBViewer in System Tray is ticked. With other words, it only happens if DVBViewer has a taskbar button.

There's even more behind it. The control bar is a window of its own. It is minimized when the main window is minimized, but not restored and only visible as what you call "a control button".  The double click is a way to restore it manually.

It also happens with a visible video display area if the control bar is visible (after "pinning" it) when the main window gets minimized and restored. After that it is not possible to restore the control bar under Windows 8 (didn't check it under Windows 10).

The issue is related to a general DVBViewer behaviour. If the main window is restored, all open DVBViewer secondary windows (like the channel list window) are supposed to be restored as well. However, this is only done under Windows 7. That's why HaraldL coudn't reproduce the issue.

Beginning with Windows 8, each open DVBViewer Window must be restored separately. Dunno if this is a bug or someone did it purposely in the past. So there are two possible fixes:

  1. Let DVBViewer restore all open windows if the main window is restored (including the control bar) also under Windows 8 and 10.
  2. Keep the Windows 8/10 behaviour (maybe people got used to it?) and let DVBViewer only restore the control bar if the main window is restored.

Any opinions about this matter?

My opinion: If all open DVBViewer secondary windows are minimized when the main window gets minimized, for consistency all open secondary windows should be restored when the main window gets restored under Windows 8/10. Which means, different than before, same as under Windows 7.

If there are no objections, I will do it this way, and you will have to live with (at least for some time...)

  • 2 weeks later...

As a minor supplementary to this discussion about the auto-switch to TV/Radio window, I notice that when playing a previously recorded radio show in the radio window that the fast forward / rewind buttons don't do anything - but they do when playing the same recorded radio in the video window. Is this behaviour by design or an undocumented feature...?

An undocumented bug (a discovery every entomologist is dreaming of :)). Fast forward / rewind are supposed to execute incremental jumping in case of pure audio playback (+/- 10, 30, 60... s forward / back depending on the number of rapid mouse clicks), and this function is somehow linked to the OSD, which is disabled in Radio Window mode.

Will be fixed in the next release.
