Job48
hello @all maybe I am asking a stupid question, however I could not find an answer in google, so I put it here: I have recently digged out an old TT S2400 receiver, which is not capable of S2. Nevertheless it scanned a channel ( TV5 ), which was marked HD. I made a short rececording, and the clip I recorded has the following specs Duration: 00:00:21.92, start: 44454.495744, bitrate: 5273 kb/s Video: h264 (High) ([27][0][0][0] / 0x001B), yuv420p(top first), 1920x1080 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 25 fps Audio: mp2 ([3][0][0][0] / 0x0003), 48000 Hz, stereo, s16p, 192 kb/s Can anyone please give me a clue. HaraldL
HD channels do not require an S2 transponder, even if it's 99% so in reality. On Astra 19.2° there are also a few HD channels on non-S2 transponders. One can see it in channel editor, blue channels are on S2 transponders, black channels are on non-S2. The color says not HD or not HD. For the DVB device a HD channel is just a normal channel with some more bandwith (so less fit on a transponder). It's up to DVBViewer to decode it, get the resolution and codecs to display it. The other way round there can be SD or radio channels on S2 transponders you cannot receive with your device. Griga
DVB-S / DVB-S2 are modulation systems, SD / HD indicate a certain video resolution range. It is a common misconception to regard these terms as synonyms. From a technical point of view they are not related to each other. HD can be transmitted on DVB-S transponders (though done rarely), as well as SD on DVB-S2 transponders. On Astra 19.2° East there is even a UHD channel that is located on a DVB-S transponder (see here) and can be received with your old DVB card. Quote Link to comment
