Challenges Using DVBViewer with SkyStar 2 HD Card in Windows 11

Hallo Christian, CM&V and all in the Forum

Thanks for the ability to take youer software the DVBViewer for inclusion, I did not see the ability for some time to seeing youer software of the DVBViewer TE2 in operation due of compatibility challenges of Windows 11. Thier are some challenges what presents, assistance of youer help would be gratefully appreciated.

Thier is also installed in the system the Skystar 2 HD TV Card, the Windows 11 does not recognise its installation, it is also not showing in the Device Manger, where possible in the network list of capabilities the ability to connect should appear, it does not.

Thiere're two separate issues of discussion, let's look at each according to the latest version of the software, so we starts first with DVBViewer.

DVBViewer of the latest version 7.2.1.0 have been installed. Attempts to follow the detail as you sees in the snapshot [2205222] the transponders do not on d&d transfer to the Transponder List, so is a challenge to add these required transponders.

In 2205221 the attempt to d&d the Available Reception Types does not prevail only when to attempting to place them under the ARTs on the right of the picture can there be no transponder lists as shown in the example in the manual on the left.

In 2205229 which of these available Transponders using DVBViewer should be used to generate the Transponder List when using either the TS Stream or DVB IPTV. The ability to receive television vis Satellite of Technisat MT exists where previously DVBViewer TE2 were used until not longer available under Windows 10 and now Windows 11 ; can this availability of reception via Technisat MT exist with either DVBViewer or DVBViewer TE2 and if so, could it be explained how access from such reception  from both may be made possible and what if any requirements are thier to ensuring the reception of channels from both applications DVBViewer and DVBViewer TE2

Reception Settings has thus a challenge to showing thier availabilities, the channel will only load from the TS Stream but not DVB IPTV, as also the Technisat Skystar2 HD Card should also present availabilities but thier needed to be such a possibility for this to happen, thus cannot the ability to Scan for Channels as The Transponder List cannot be loaded.

Next to the DVBViewer TE2, which were in successful operation for some times under earlier versions of up to Windows 10.

2205223 shows Techinsat DVBViewer TE2 installed.

2205224 shows the selection of a channel.

2205225 shows thier the availability of the DVB Adapter not being found.

2205226 shows The Hardware Settings with the Device Description remaining empty despite the Device "having being installed" ; previously used via Satellite, the Device when "Scan Devices" is selected does not appear in the description

2205227 gives the availability to the SkyStar 2 eXpress HD Card being available, thier is no access to it as it is not featured.

2205228 shows the detail of the DVBViewer being installed on the system, the latest version as observed of youerselves.

See the detail of which were observed at the link

https://www.DVBViewer.com/en/page=manual&chapter=b&sub=b1

but could not locate the ini file as mentioned in youer second paragraph under Prerequistes.

What would be most achievable is seeing the Technisat Card being available for use with DVBViewer with the channels as available under DVBViewer TE2 being available on one or preferably both of the DVB applications.

Over the releases of DVBViewer TE2 have, when operated nicely in the past under various iterations of the earlier Windows versions, were very well happy to have thier presence and with advice on how further to adapt the necessary prerequisites within Windows 11 for both application types.

I looks very forward to using DVBViewer. It has been since at least 2017 that it were possible to use the software as yourselves at CM&V have so beautifully as comprehensively designed and produced and with youer assistance looks forward to enjoying the capabilities of youer software applications even further.

Thanks for youer assistance with this enquiry.

Spelling "mistakes are dialectical to locality".

with best regards

What is the exact product name of your TechniSat card? Unfortunately there are cards with similar names (SkyStar XXX...), but completely different hardware and drivers.

Please note that TechniSat has stopped the support for PC products many years ago, so there are no up-to-date drivers for Windows 10/11, and there is no guarantee that your card will ever work under Windows 11.

Hallo Griga

Thanks for the response, the card is a SkyStar 2 Express HD Card, it've been in use under earlier version of windows up to Windows 10 but now on Windows 11, it worked not more. The updates were applied but thier used to be an option in the Network Folder \Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections where the ability to apply its use pertinent to the network installed against the card presented, now thier is no presentation of the option any more after the software for the card've been installed as thus updated. What cards can thus be used in place if the card as mentioned here does not be in operation anymore ?

Thanks Griga for youer help

There are two drivers for this card contained in the TechniSat software download. One of them (NDIS) enables using the card as network adapter for internet via satellite. It is usable with DVBViewer, but not recommended. All what DVBViewer needs is a pure BDA driver installation. This is what I would try.

As far as I can see, the SkyNetNXPBDA.inf / SkyNetNXPBDA_AMD64.sys files are suitable for the SkyStar 2 Express HD. Maybe it is necessary to install the BDA driver manually (in the Windows Device Manager) and direct Windows to these files. After installation, devices with BDA driver usually show up in the  Sound, Video and Game Controllers section of the Windows Device Manager, without any network related stuff.

Without successful driver installation you won't be able to use the card in DVBViewer. So that's what has to be solved first.

Hallo Griga

Thanks for the response, sorry for the long delay in replying, I've a few possibilities to analyse on this, it may be "or should be something fairly minor", as I've also one other important task, then we takes a look at both then comes the feedback, thanks for youer patience.

Griga Hallo and welcome to this next update

Reading youer informations it were decided to check for a few things, on of the p/s connector of the card not being connected thier thus were no detection. On connecting the p/s of the card thus updating to the latest updaters, we're "cooking on gas" [it now works well and fine as you sees from the illustrations] with this post, so pleased am I for this for thier were no DVBViewer here since the onset of Windows 10 to this now the latest of Windows 11, I always enjoyed to use it so thanks once again for youer help, gratefully  appreciated.

Just this next point, the question of dragging the transponder information into the box as shown in the additional illustration : this d & d still not possible is as seen in the second picture of the first post, in the last picture of the first post, is thier something as you could suggests to make this possible, I'd likes to have receptivity from other channels available within the MT "ring" of "four" in DVBViewer Pro, would thier be a safe way to be able to do this direct via the MT as connected to the system ? Hopes you can assists on this one.

Thanks once again, sterling ["toll, toll, toll"] !

What is the "MT ring of four in DVBViewer Pro"?  What is your goal? What do you want to achieve? Your way of describing things is difficult to understand. Please try to reduce it to simple facts like "I want to perform a channel search on Astra 28° East. What do I have to do?"

Hallo Griga

Here also are some pictures of DVBViewer TE2 receptivity as evaluated earlier today

MT "is MultyTenne" of Technisat which operates the ring of four transponders to enable receptivity between the satellites. You can scroll the detail here :

TechniSat: MULTYTENNE QUATTROSAT, one participant [1045/8814] - 4 Orbital positions - with LNB | EN

The goal is to be able to achieve transponder receptivity of all the satellite types availability of the Multytenne using DVBViewer Pro. So then d & d does not appear to be supported from the list as shown in the attached illustration. Using DVBViewer Pro, I wants to perform a channel search of

Eutelsat 13° East,
Astra 19,2° East,
Astra 23,5° East and
Astra 28,2° East but d & d "does not permit this"

What do I have to do to enable the d & d as illustrated in 22052210

Hope this is clearer for youer understanding and once again thanks for youer assistance !

That's easy, because the channel and transponder lists pre-installed with DVBViewer Pro are suitable for the Multytenne (I'm owning it myself). Proceed as follows:

  • On the Reception Settings page of the Channel List Editor select the desired satellite position in the Available Reception Types list. If it is not present yet (because there are no channels from this satellite position in your channel list), simply select DVB-S.
  • If the generic DVB-S item is not present, DVBViewer hasn't detected your TechniSat card yet. Click Settings -> Options -> Hardware -> Scan Devices, followed by Apply in the Options window and Update on the Reception Settings page.
  • Select the transponder list for the desired satellite position on the right side.
  • Click Load Channel List and select the channel list that DVBViewer shall load in the popup menu. Or click Scan if you want to perform a channel search.

There are several methods. Your screenshots suggest that you have already found out how to load pre-installed DVBViewer channel lists for the TS Stream reception type. It covers internet TV and radio.

If you know the internet address (URL) of a TV or radio stream (e.g. DW English, https://dwamdstream102.akamaized.net/hls/live/2015525/dwstream102/index.m3u8), you can add it manually:

  • Select TV/Radio -> Channel Editor
  • Select the location where the new channel shall be inserted on the left side
  • Click the New button on the right -> select Stream
  • Enter the address and the channel name (DVBViewer will auto-detect the rest on first tuning)
  • Click Add
  • Double-click the new channel on the left

Or think big :)

https://github.com/iptv-org/iptv

  • Copy one of the URLs from this page to the address bar of your browser and download the M3U file
  • Drag & drop the m3u file into the DVBViewer Channel Editor.
  • Check out 15000 internet TV channels. Not all of them will work, but it will keep you busy over the next months...

Hallo Griga, just following youer information and these are the results of what you were suggesting :

The .m3u file when selected will only stream via Windows Media player but has sporadic operation ;

When streaming via Windows Media Player, see the dots in the bottom middle in orange, the stream goes into a buffer zone with sporadic playback ;

Whether selecting playback of the .m3u file in either DVBViewer Channel Editor or via the dropdown menu options, select DVBViewer and nothing happens, perhaps this is needed for a different type of input ?

thanks for youer help

Don't try to play the m3u file or its URL. It is a playlist containing items that can be played. It's a kind of channel list. Let's take this one:

https://iptv-org.github.io/iptv/index.country.m3u

First download it so it is stored on your hard disk. Right click the link above and select "Save Target as". Then drag and drop the downloaded m3u file from an Explorer Window into the DVBViewer Channel List Editor. The result should look like this:

Zwischenablage01.png

Then tune the channels.

Here it works with DVBViewer 7.2.2.

Griga, as we speaks, I found an alternative to youer suggestion and it goes thus :

First, download the url of the desired .m3u

Next, Launch the DVBViewer and navigate to the Channel List Editor

With a blank pane of no channels showing, select the bottom left "imports a channel list" - this is importing the desired downloaded .m3u list from the download location, this were in the location where the download resided

Simply next go to the downloaded file after selecting "All files" then select "Open" in the bottom right

When selected "Open" youer desired list of channels of youer chosen category appears in the left pane of the Channel List

Then you can select youer desired channels of youer choice.

It works well !
