Picture in Picture window can only show few programs depending on the main program that is displayed

Recommended Posts

I would like first to say thank you for an excellent software. The original software that came with my tuner card was crap. Then I bought DVBViewer, and it worked very well for many years. Today, I discovered that I could not use PiP to watch Wimbledon and UEFA 2024 in parallel :). I have a Terratec Cinergy C PCI Digital tuner (DVB-C card),  I am using DVBViewer Pro 7.3.0.0 and I do not understand why in the Picture in Picture window I am only able to select certain (few) programs depending on the main program that is selected.

Ex:

If in main screen I am watching channel A in PIP I can only see channels A, B, C, and D.

If I change channel from main screen to  F, then I will only be able to see in PIP channels X, Y, and Z (different than what I could see for main channel A).

Can anybody explain why is this?

Thank you!

That's normal. With one tuner you can only receive a single frequency at a time. This means, PiP can only play channels that are broadcasted on the same frequency as the channel in the main window.

If you want PiP to become independent from the channel played in the main window, you need a second tuner.

Thank you for the clarification. I was under the impression some cards are PiP capable and I thought they would be either able to display any channels in Picture in Picture or not capable to display PiP at all. I was not aware that it is possible to display two channels if they are on the same frequency. In the card specs they mentioned "Picture in Picture within a transponder" and I was not sure what it meant.
