E-Mail Notification after timer recording?

Hi,

would it be useful to have the option to have DVBViewer automatically send an e-mail when it is done recording something? It is not a must-have, but a nice-to-have:

- You would be sure that a recording was successful

- If more recording events are scheduled, you could check in case one doesn't work, so at least the others are recorded

- And of course it would be cool if your VCR sends you mails ;-)

Maybe for some specs ("basic" version):

- DVBViewer can upon completion of a recording (before it executes the shutdown/hibernate/whatever) call an external program, e.g., mail, and give it parameters including the recipient e-mail address, the subject and the body of the mail.

- The subject should contain a quick note, e.g., "Recording of <Title of show> was successful".

- The body should contain more information, e.g., the EPG description, time&date of broadcast, size in megs,... (open for discussion).

- DVBViewer waits a period of time to allow the external program to execute (waiting time can be set in DVBViewer).

An "extended" version could also incorporate the following features:

- DVBViewer can work more closely with some external programs and evaluate their exit codes, i.e., no fix waiting time, but an event-driven behavior.

- For example, if sending wasn't successful, DVBViewer could retry 1...n times and then shutdown/hibernate/whatever

- In the background, there is still a DVBViewer time-out for these actions, to prevent DVDViewer waiting forever for a stalled external program.

- DVBViewer also sends mails in case of recording failures (I don't know whether this is possible or useful, since mostly recordings only seem to fail if DVBViewer crashes, in which case it can't send mails any more...)

- DVBViewer possibly doesn't even need an external program because it has its own SMTP engine.

That's all I can think of now. Do you think such an option would be useful (and possible to implement without having to redo DVBViewer completely)?

Cheers,
