Carlton Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago I would like to enquire whether there is an DVBViewer feature or plug-in that would allow me to automatically search the EPG database from a specific set list of programmes that I am interested in. And if possible from this list, be able to optionally automate the set recording. At present I am copying the programme names from a text file and manually entering them, one by one, into the DVBViewer search feature . . . which is somewhat laborious. I would be grateful for your assistance and help. Many thanks Quote

There is. The DVBViewer Media Server allows to define EPG search presets, that can be used for automatic background recording of programmes that match certain criteria. To give you an impression: This is the "Search EPG" page of the Desktop Web Interface. The Media Server offers many more features, particularly TV and media streaming to clients on other devices in your home network like mobile devices or TV sets, a Mobile Web Interface allowing to control everything with your smartphone, etc. Downloading and using the Media Server full version requires an additional licence, which means, you need to buy it for € 21;-. There is also a restricted version ("Media Server Basic"), that is free for customers who have purchased DVBViewer, but it does not provide the auto-timer feature. Anyway, you can check it out first and then upgrade to the full version later. Please read more about it here. Particularly the last paragraph will be of interest for you. Quote
Carlton Posted 3 hours ago Author Posted 3 hours ago Griga, Thank you very much for this information . . . I will look into the DVBViewer Media Server option (although I don't need the media streaming feature). Indeed that last paragraph is intriguing. As an aside, I would assume that DVBViewer Pro and DVBViewer Media Server cannot be run at the same time on a single PC (receiver hardware mismatch) ? Quote
HaraldL Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Yes they can, both on the same PC is the usual way, but with Media Server you could even install DVBViewer additionally on a different PC in the same network (license allows this in the same household). After installing Media Server (either version) it has control over the DVB Hardware. The DVBViewer connects then as a RTSP client to the Media Server, no longer directly to the Hardware. There is a Media Server Wizard in the "Help" menu that creates RTSP devices to the Media Server and disables Hardware in DVBViewer. User experience is the same this way, but recordings are done in background by the Media Server now. DVBViewer does not need to run for that. And with the full version automatic EPG refresh of all stations happens in background, so always complete EPG. And the automatic timer creation you want. I have about 50 search criteria for titles or actors in description, so my PC records anything interesting, with ability to mostly detect duplicates for recording only once. Don't want to miss this features 😄 Quote
