It is VERY IMPORTANT for you to read and fully understand this article.

Someone told you that RadLight is spyware? Well, it's definitely not truth. RadLight is not spyware itself and does not bundle spyware as well. RadLight is Ad-ware. We have no problems to admit that :P

Ad-ware keeps software free, that's a fact. We could not afford to invest thousands of $ into hardware, software, webhosting and human resources if we were freeware. More than 90% of the revenue generated through bundled Ad-ware is reinvested back into RadLight developement making it better, for you. :P

So please, THINK about this before you start to blame us for being "evil spyware". We do not force you to install the ad-supported version, we do not force you to use RadLight at all. It's your choice :P

I'd recommend you to take a look at this site http://www.radlight.net/helpware.htm and especially at this document http://spweb.whenu.com/privacy_report_summary.pdf

Quotation :

SaveNow is Ad-ware, NOT spyware. There are very important differences between Ad-ware and spyware:

Ad-Ware is a legitimate product that

  • * clearly discloses its presence and what it does during the installation process
    * supports many popular download programs so that they can continue to be offered free to users
    * serves ads that are clearly branded by the company which serves them protects user privacy and does not track user surfing habits
    * is simple to uninstall

Spyware

  • * does not adequately disclose its presence to users during the installation process
    * adds little or no value to the user experience
    * is extremely difficult for the average user to identify. If it shows ads, they are not branded and origins are unclear
    * tracks user clickstream and surfing habits, and reports them to a central server where they are stored
    * is difficult to uninstall, and the average user will not know how to do it.

Now, some screenshots of how sneaky RadLight is when installing spypware :D

Spyware does exist, that's a fact. Some companies bundle more than 10, often very dubious third-party applications - various toolbars, password managers etc. We at RadLight decided to add a minimum possible number of third-party applications as we are aware of the fact how people feel about them. Our goal is not to make $$$ at all cost by throwing tons of useless trash on you.

Some companies, however, want people to think that all Ad-ware is spyware (see Lavasoft's Adaware). They live from spreading this panic among Internet users as they know that many people are naive and have very little PC experience. It's very easy to believe that "some evil company wants to spy on you", isn't it?. Their only goal is to sell the commercial version of their software. And that's a fact.
